The iPad has an estimated 73% share of the UK tablet market

A total of 3.62 million people own tablet computers in the UK, with Apple having a 73% market share, according to new research from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech.

The number of owners is set to grow rapidly, although Apple's share may be eroded, with only half of potential tablet owners saying that they will buy an iPad in the next year, says the company. Kantar gathers its data from a panel of direct consumer interviews in the UK, France, Italy, Germany, US and Australia.

Global TV Stats Down, But U.S. Viewing On The Rise

A sweeping new report from Swedish tech firm Ericsson that studied viewing habits across 13 developed countries found that fewer people are tuning in to watch regularly scheduled TV, recorded programs and DVDs, while on-demand content from the Web -- including TV shows, movies and clips -- is rising steadily.

By contrast, according to Nielsen, TV viewing in the U.S. is growing from all sources -- including traditional TV, where audiences tuned in an average 22 minutes more per month in the first quarter of 2011 compared to the same period a year ago.

Quick Stat: Advertisers Will Spend $500 Billion in 2011

Online ad expenditures of $80.2 billion are fueling the recovery, with internet ad spending increasing 17.2% this year. The global advertising industry has rebounded more quickly from the worldwide recession than eMarketer and other analysts had anticipated. According to updated eMarketer data published in June, advertisers will spend nearly $500 billion in 2011—a growth rate of 4.5%.

Mobile internet use nearing 50 Percent

Almost half of UK internet users are going online via mobile phone data connections, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Some 45% of people surveyed said they made use of the net while out and about, compared with 31% in 2010.

The most rapid growth was among younger people, where 71% of internet-connected 16 to 24-year-olds used mobiles.
