Quick Stat: Advertisers Will Spend $500 Billion in 2011

Online ad expenditures of $80.2 billion are fueling the recovery, with internet ad spending increasing 17.2% this year. The global advertising industry has rebounded more quickly from the worldwide recession than eMarketer and other analysts had anticipated. According to updated eMarketer data published in June, advertisers will spend nearly $500 billion in 2011—a growth rate of 4.5%.

Mobile internet use nearing 50 Percent

Almost half of UK internet users are going online via mobile phone data connections, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Some 45% of people surveyed said they made use of the net while out and about, compared with 31% in 2010.

The most rapid growth was among younger people, where 71% of internet-connected 16 to 24-year-olds used mobiles.

comScore Releases European Engagement and Top Web Properties Rankings for April 2011

LONDON, UK, June 1, 2011 - comScore, Inc., ...today released an overview of internet usage in Europe, showing 365.3 million unique visitors went online in April 2011 for an average of 24.2 hours per person. This study draws its analysis from comScore’s research panel, which shows internet usage in 49 European markets aggregated under the European region and provides individual reports on 18 markets.

Tablet users increasing content consumption

The “Hidden Opportunities in New Media Survey” found that 29% of tablet owners increased their use of magazines in the last year compared with just 4% of nontablet owners. Similarly, 26% of device owners said they increased their consumption of newspapers compared with just 6% of nontablet owners.

The survey was conducted online in December 2010 and included interviews of 2,000 U.S. consumers.

High Satisfaction Rates Support a Bright Future for Tablets

eMarketer estimated in December that 24 million tablets, including 19.4 million iPads, would be sold in the US this year, more than doubling last year’s sales figures. Worldwide, eMarketer forecasts 43.6 million tablet sales this year, up from 15.7 million in 2010. More than three in four tablets sold around the world will be an iPad.
